There are almost a zillion different ways to make baked beans. Canned baked beans are typically made from navy beans, and they're usually in some sort of a sauce. In England, the sauce is generally tomato sauce and in the United States, the sauce is usually some sort of port/molasses mixture. Maine beans are usually supplemented with maple syrup, as are the beans in Quebec, Canada.
